Sled Dragging

The most versatile tool in an athletes training is the Sled. In my opinion very underrated by many. Why?

Short answer, its not a complicated piece of equipment. It does require effort and hard work though. The versatility of the sled allows you to travel with it, and perform movements that a fixed barbell or exercise does not. Programming the sled into your training program adds a ton of variety and is an easy way to increase volume in your workouts. Sled training also increases overall endurance.

Scheduling your sled work as warm-up is great way to get the blood flowing. Especially if your athletes have been sitting at a desk all day.

I have noticed the most benefits from sled work when it is used as accessory work. The sled is used on upper and lower body days. For lower body days I like to have the athletes walk in all directions, forward, backward, laterally even duck walk style. The intent here is to generate force from the ground up. Doing it properly the sled should make a jerking or jumping sound when the correct force is applied. Same goes for sled on upper body days.

If you haven’t already added sled training into your program, go ahead and start. You wont be disappointed.
